Book project update: final printed proof and photos

Published on

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I received one hour ago all the printed proof from the printer and the result is perfect! I'm really happy with it about everything: the high quality print of the covers, the paper inside (thickness and satin), the brilliance of the colors and the sharpness of the details. I'm really really happy right now. So, between two rainy clouds, I went outside and took quickly photos to show you the books under sunlight. I hope the photos (no color correction, from my phone) that you'll find at the end of this post will get you an overall idea about what I'm talking. You can click on them to enlarge.

Is it ready to buy? Unfortunately not now. I now need to setup all the online things to sell the book; a Eshop page, a video to tell all the adventure, a page to share all my workaround, etc...etc... Still a lot of work, but something that is coming soon; mid or end October. I'll probably post a lot when it will be ready, so if you follow; you'll notice. (thank you for your patience).

Oh, and a quick note: by "perfect", understand here this is a word I use after all the trouble I met since years of tests and frustrations. You can't imagine how many time I received really bad printed proof on this project. The quality is not an absolute perfection or superior to the other comic printed you'll find on stores. It just matches this type of "retail quality" perfectly and this is a big achievement to me. That's why I qualify this printed proof batch as "perfect". I'm proud of them.

After so much time spend on it, you can finally see that your efforts were worth it!
I'm looking forward for your eshop to be ready :)

I just wanted to say I really like your work and that I am happy for you, this is an important milestone so enjoy the moment! Let us know when they're available in the eShop

"Inside Book 1" looks like the only picture of the softcover open, so thanks for that.
Also, congratulations on finally getting a satisfactory print; it's been a long road!

Fantastic!

Yay! Congratulations, David! You've done good work, and had a lot of patience and perseverance :) Thank you also for sharing the steps along the way with us, including hints about software etc. which may hopefully shorten the way for someone else.

Merci! Awesome. This is first "Art Of" book I know is CC BY SA. Book is valuable, can print local and translate it! Blender's Open Movie book, only it's pictures is CC BY SA, text is standard copyright/greedright monopoly. I ask Ton why but he never answer. I not recommend for friend buy Open Movie book because that problem.

So glad to hear everything worked and the books are finally coming! I'm impressed how persistent you have been working on this project a whole year with the constraint of working with FOSS only. Projects like yours are very important to pave the way for authors who want to work with FOSS.
I hope you and your family are fine as the corona virus infection numbers are increasing in France. Stay safe!

Congratulations! They look great.

I admire the effort you put into keeping all the workflow free. This almost invisible value of the book gives it much more "quality" to my eyes. So take your time and tell that story. There's so much printers and software developers can learn from you pushing the boundaries. Well done!

The books look fantastic and I'm looking forward to being able to buy them. I certainly know what I want for Christmas this year! ^_^

Great!! I'm happy for you that the books look like as you wish.
Do you think you will manage to have your e-shop ready so we can offer the books for Christmas? I would love to offer them for that moment.

link David Revoy Author,

hey, thanks! It's in good way: but all relly now on:
1. Testing the printer rendering in U.S. (the print proof has shipped this morning and I took an UPS 48h delivery option, so I'll know it this week). My test included the UK printer only because my adress was in France.
2. The product page and new website is ready. I don't have the video yet; I'm waiting for the sun because that's the best light for taking shot without equipement.
I'm working on it a lot right now :-) If all goes well, it will appear between mid-october to end october. So, yes; perfect to be available for Christmas gifts.

I may have missed the information before, but will there be other languages than English? I'm looking forward for the French version ;).

link David Revoy Author,

Hey Spmeckar! The French version is already available (three books) it is made and published by Glénat. Their quality is good, their price is low and they support the project: I have no motivation right now to make a French version (it would take weeks of work, maybe more)You can find the Glénat one on many eshop online but I recommend to buy it to a local bookstore. For publishing in other language, I'm still studying it (only for book 1,2,3 ; artbook will remain in English, I'm almost sure about it) It will likely depends how much the books in English will sell and will require the contribution of translators.

David, this looks so awesome. Instant buy.

Until now i read your comics always alone, because for my little daughter its a little bit to early to read long time on screens. So i look very forward on her reactions when i read with her the printed version together. Iam sure she will love pepper and carrot.
