Mosquitoes hunter

Products and prints available here on eshop.

I wanted in this illustration to paint a good book cover about faeries. I collected design ideas from my sketchbook and targeted to paint it for my portfolio. I feel far from the result I had in mind this time, but I got good surprise at the same time. Sometimes I have to accept the illustration has 'her' own life in the creative process. I tried to keep the painting brush strokes visible ( not to smoothed ) and keep a high level of details, but I'm still doing test to find the good harmony between:

  • Time spent on illustration
  • Dynamism of the painting, presence of the 'human hand'
  • Level of details and finishing

About the theme - here on my holidays in Poland- the garden is surrounded by mosquitoes and they really 'bloody' love my wife and me. I thought I would have my revenge with painting a good mosquitoes hunter. If only I could have fairies like this, the garden would be here a real paradise. Full of blood females mosquitoes are surely full of protein.

2022 Update: Updated resolution, color grading and painted-over the design because I couldn't like the piece anymore. Previous version is still visible here.

The wings configuration somehow disturbs me. Apart from that, it's a very pleasant work :-) color balance is just right, but this time you did not use a lot of complementary colors... is this because you aim at a "book cover" and the title should be the complementary set of colors?

More about that visit in Poland. Only mosquitoes? What about pierogi and bigos? Have you tried bigos?

link David Revoy Author,

@Grzegorz Kossowski : Hey Grzegorz ! Dzienki for the comment. Yes, I'm back from Poland also today after another 2 weeks. Enjoying family and Euro2012 ( I'm not a football fan, but the ambiance was great to have fun with it ). Of course I like bigos and ate it 5 days ago :) And for pierogi , I even bring back them at home :D Poland have great food. ( and agressive mosquitoes XD )

It would be great if some of your work was charted for cross stitch embroidery. They are so lovely and would be a pleasure to stitch. I wish I had an ounce of your artistic talent!

She's so cool one of my favorite fairy pieces 😀
I asked a couple years ago but
I was wondering if I could have a signed print of this from you?

link David Revoy Author,

Hi Adam,
Thank you. I updated the piece today so I could upload it to the Redbubble shop:

I hope you'll like the correction of the 2022 remix; I had to do this because the original resolution of 2010 wasn't really printable, and also because I had a lot of difficulties with the proportion of the face, hands and body.
For getting it signed; it might be easier and cheaper for me to sign a postcard and send it to you than getting the poster/print at full size threw postal system. Or better: if you ever cross my way on a IRL event.
Thanks again for your nice words about this 2010 artwork.
