Lightwork

Published on

A speedpainting inspired by Devin Townsend's 2022 music album. I'll go to his concert tomorrow in Toulouse! Lightwork Tour. I listen to his music since 2000. I can't wait!

Update after the concert:

🤩🤩🤩 The concert was G R E A T!

He really played a lot of song from my youth around the Infinity period: Bad Devil, Truth... or from the start of 2000s, like The Fluke, Deadhead, Kingdom, it was so cool!

When episode 38 will be for beta reading please?

link David Revoy Author,

Hi, I'll blog post about it tomorrow. I want to get a version pretty advanced with shading to blend with the 3D environment before painting over both. I'll probably have 80% done when I'll publish beta this time.
Be sure I'm injecting the maximum of my time into getting this episode published the sooner I can.

Wow, I love this one. I know his name (primarily in the context of his cooperations with Anneke van Giersbergen) and I've been into metal music since my early teens but I guess I should really check out his work. I'm pretty old-school so I mostly buy albums on cd or vinyl to keep the music experience separate from computers. But I'll check his work, I definitely will! Have you sent him your work? I can imagine he'd be proud. It would also be amazing if you'd have these printed on dark blue shirts. Does the original image extend beyond these borders and did you trim it (so that it fades in dark blue in all directions) or does the actual image stop at these borders we see here?

Looks awesome!

link David Revoy Author,

I loved the Addicted album with Anneke van Giersbergen, (I was really liking "The Gathering" , esp. the song Liberty Bell and Mandylion, still on my playlist so when she joined Devin, I was super fan).

> Have you sent him your work?

Yes, I have shamelessly tried to quote his name on Twitter when I posted the art; but his account is not active at all and probably managed by someone else on his crew during the tour (very intense, he plays almost every night in Feb/March). So, maybe he quickly browsed it. That's enough to think about it :)

About the geometry of the original Krita file, it's the same as the JPG here; probably a bit of paint outside the boundary of the picture (Krita doesn't autocrop the brush strokes going outside) but probably not enough paint to reframe it in a more wide picture.

Cool, yeah I think Anneke is a great character and has had a huge influence over here on girls who realized they could sing in metal too without giving in to popular stereotypes just to get attention. Early February my daughter (11yo) and I attended a For I Am King concert here in Amsterdam. I really like smaller shows where everything is more intimate and welcoming. The bass player also brought his 11 year old daughter so it was a really friendly dynamic. You can see the footage in the link. I'm the mad headbanger front and center, the girl in the blue hoodie is my daughter.

The good thing is you can get really close, can talk to them and cuddle. I think I'm lucky that the artists I admire are still somewhat underground and approachable :).
