Painted on Debian KDE 12 stable, Krita, no reference because I had the image in mind. It's an OC, for a one-shot graphic novel I started writing in 2010, The Electron Donor, and I make progress here and there on the pre-production, especially when I want to paint cyberpunk genre (rare).
that also can be arranged. Local arcade owner lets me use a cab with a PC running Bazzite in it, i can put literally anything (that can run on an i5) on it.
@wowaname i have those, too many of them because i was prototyping a PC running emulated Carnevil. I played Quake on DS and on Wii and it works surprisingly well on both, but Wii isn't really fit for an arcade environment and quake port has quite a learning curve when it comes to controls.
@wowaname it works surprisingly well if sensitivity is tweaked well enough. Prototype is made of 3 3d-printed pieces and yet seen actual use, if everything goes well i might make proper one-piece (is real) metal sheet like real arcade control panel. Biggest issue is that "mountable" trackballs generally suck, even the proper arcade ones. Lowkey wish there was scaled-up steam controller trackpads available...
@wowaname 💜 Xonotic. I used to play for years on Nexuiz servers in a clan with competition and all. I stopped before it transformed fully into Xonotic (not because of that, just no more time to play like that). I wonder if some of my small graphic contribution are still part of it (it was under a nickname). I'll check 😺
Salut David.
@BoydStephenSmithJr Thank you, it's one of my OC. I never played the game Cyberpunk. One thing I dislike about it (and all its derivatives) is how it appropriated the whole genre 'cyberpunk' as a franchise name. It really makes impossible now to search for retro 80s or 90s cyberpunk illustration before or anything from this genre before that game. One day, I'll have to play it, to know at least when I design something if I don't reinvent a design someone else made (and much more popular).
Well, Cyberpunk 2020 (the table-top RPG) was my first introduction to the term, so I don't mind as much.
(I never played it, but I played Shadowrun which had some community overlap.)
The Edgerunners Netflix series (and that music video) are worth a watch, even if they are strongly tied to the game from CD Project Red, and not just cyberpunk in general.
@BoydStephenSmithJr I entered the genre with BladeRunner the movie as a young kid (diffused on TV), then playing Syndicate (DOS/Win95), then yes: ShadowRun table top RPG. I loved the game, played maybe three times, no huge campaign unfortunately (we quickly moved to "In Nomine Satanis/Magna Veritas" a French RPG and it was too much fun to stop https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Nomine_Satanis/Magna_Veritas , very "Constantine" ). I also like to think FF7 Midgard area as in my cyberpunk inspirations 💙
Yeah, cyberpunk, to me, is very much an 80's and 90's thing with Willaim Gibson and Bruce Sterling writing on the subjects, among many others. As well as some movies and tv shows, Shadowrun, GITS, and so much more.
Of course, Gibson and others annouced the genre dead in the late 90's because real world tech exceeded what they wrote about in many ways. So Cyberpunk the game is almost retrofutureist nostalgic and yet dominates the genre.
@Johns_priv Thank you, I'll post later the timelapse to leave no doubt about it.
Yes, it's one of my OC and I have her in mind since more than a decade for a novel I wrote. I made many attempts in the past and sketches to depict her. My skill nowadays allows me to be a bit more closer to what I have in mind, but I still think something is a bit off, and not totally as I imagine her. I'll keep working on this character. One day she'll be ready for the graphic novel 😊
It reminds me of some character but I can't put my finger on it. I'm getting a bit of Kaneda (Akira anime movie) with the melancholy of a cyberpunk character and the yellow jacket I'm guessing a homage to Kill Bill.
@Johns_priv Thank you. Same, the more I flesh out this character, the more I feel she has something I already saw somewhere. I'll find it. Maybe from Masamune Shirow, Apple Seed, Ghost in the Shell, etc.
@Johns_priv "One day she'll be ready for the graphic novel" was what I was hoping to read from you in this thread! :heart_fire: Love that picture and would like to know more about that character.
Electron Donor! I love it. Always excited for more in that universe.
So glad that my instantly thinking of that older painting was justified, and not a case of Boss Baby syndrome. (Guy who has only seen one painting by David Revoy of a girl in a yellow jacket: "Getting a lot of 'Electron Donor' vibes from this.")

tuxracer arcade cab huh, that can be arranged ★

@hj We need a TUXArcade one with TuxRacer, TuxKart and Super Tux. :blobaww: 🕹️

@hj Oh nice! Playing TuxRacer with arcade control must be super fun.

the real goal would be to put tuxcart on one of those though

@hj as long as we have a xonotic cabinet in the other corner ★
hj@shigusegubu.club
@wowaname i have a prototype control panel for playing FPSes on a real (modern) arcade cab, it's heavily inspired by quake arcade cab. Dunno how playable it would be for xonotic but anything with simple control scheme like quake and doom should be good enough (except for weapon switch maybe)

@hj @wowaname Oh oh, aiming with a trackball? If I saw an arcade machine with that, I would certainly try it out of curiosity for sure.

@hj @wowaname works okay-ish
played a couple rounds UT2K4 on mine
not good enough for decent scores, but way better than touchpad or gamepad ★
