video timelapse «Coloring a comic page»

Published on

During the production of the latest episode ( ep13. "The Pyjama Party" ) I managed to screen-record a sample of the coloring process done with Krita 2.9.9 . Today, I decided to edit and accelerate this 10h of videos material into a short ( 5min ) Youtube time-lapse. I hope you'll like to see how this page evolved from the black and white line-art to the final version. I also attach a link here to the final page in the highest-resolution.

Great job !
Perfect mastery shade and lighting.
Thank you so much for sharing your work, it's great creative inspiration.

So cool. I love how many times you went back to Shichimi, changing her hair, expression or top portion of clothing.
Keep up the good work!

link David Revoy Author,

@Phil : Thank you !

@CD : Oh yes, I remember it was a difficult decision to erase the previous head ( I wasn't happy with it) and repaint her from scratch. Thank you for noticing.

This was Awesome to watch! Way Cool....
The Gray at the start always messes me up. I see you can and do change the color, but do you use it as a guide too, to balance the painting?
I would like to try some fan art if that would be okay? Maybe that way I can slowly go through and see how some of it works.
Thanks for the info Mr. Revoy
Will

link David Revoy Author,

@Will : Hey, yes the black and white pass is here to fill the canvas with grey values. It help me to decide about the light source position and anticipate the type of shadows I'll obtain. It's also a good step to decide where I'm managing the focal point ( often the face of characters, and higher value ). In the this back and white grisaille pass ; I rarely use pure black and pure white ; they are hard to colorize. I'm travelling between 10% grey to 90% grey. It's a good step for planning an artwork.

Superbe travail, très bon site. Quel chemin depuis Chagall...

Hi! Could you please explain what different profiles do? (Color Profiles?) Eg. sRGB Built-in. What should I use and when? Which do you prefer to use?
Thank you!

link David Revoy Author,

@Adam Abrahamsson : Hey, Wolthera ( Krita team developer ) made a brilliant article about color management, with example and easy to digest: https://userbase.kde.org/Krita/Manual/ColorManagement
About my preferences, it's more about a technical constrain on Pepper&Carrot: I chain my renders with batch script to Inkscape, Imagemagick and more library, so I need to stick with a 'universal' , almost basic, RGB profile with a profiled monitor ( I use a Huey Pro colorimeter ).

Thank you for answering! I'll maybe give that a read soon.

Awesome!!

Hello,

Merci !

link David Revoy Author,

link David Revoy Author,

:-) Merci !

link David Revoy Author,

Bonjour, Merci.
