A comic in four panels:
Panel 1. Wide view angle in the office of the University of Magic Headmaster. The room is filled with shelves of ancient tomes, but mainly, a carpet leading to the desk of the boss. A young gothic sorceress enters the room with determination, followed by a robotic cyber-parrot flying behind her: the Avian Intelligence bird. Detail: the boss has a AI Parrot too and seat nearby a large circular active portal. She points her finger at her AI Parrot.
Gothic Sorceress: "Headmaster, I'm requesting to opt out of the Avian Intelligence program!"
Panel 2. Shot on the desk of the Headmaster, an old wizard and his AI parrot, perched. He is deeply busy and his attention is fully absorbed on his paperwork, probably signing administrative stuff, giving a minimal attention to her.
Headmaster: "Not an option. Our investors say it's the future of magic."
Panel 3. The Headmaster gestures grandly at a portal nearby him, while adjusting his glasses. The circular view into another dimension reveals a distorted, broken wonderland. Twisted trees shaped like cartoon elephant, architectures of towers with faces, and weird creatures with big nose, moustache, the body of fish and long leg ending by three fingers. The atmosphere is both fascinating and deeply unsettling.
Headmaster: "See? With mine I created this world in minutes. Not perfect, lots of small bugs, but it works... mostly."
Panel 4: The young gothic student and the Headmaster stand before the dimension. She is skeptical with her hands on her hips, while the Headmaster seems tries to justify himself while thinking about it, the hand twisting a bit of beard on his chin.
Gothic Sorceress: "It's ugly and broken."
Headmaster: ""Vibe spelling", I call it.".

Your timing is impeccable.
βamin@polymaths.social
How unrealistic. In real life the headmaster would have an Avian Intelligence screening all student requests.
;)

Good satire, David.
βchaz@infosec.exchange
Of course it's full of small bugs. They give the birds something to eat.
βangelthorns@treehouse.systems
thanks for actually drawing this and not slopping it all over my feed unlike other people, ur appreciated :)
βdavidrevoy
@angelthorns Thank you π I try to record all of them, they take me two day (and long day, from morning to very late) to produce. Here is a small timelapse for this one: https://www.peppercarrot.com/0_sources/miniFantasyTheater/making-of/029.mp4
I collect all of them here https://www.peppercarrot.com/0_sources/miniFantasyTheater/making-of/ (but I need to make a better page for displaying them, of course! On my todo)

wow thats awesome to see how its done, i never been a great drawer so its cool to see how someone does it, i just believe that using AI deprives people of the human experience of learning, getting better and doing somethings for themselves and all the moments that come with that, destroys the environment just for some uncanny image that is used to devalue the skills people have spent years practicing, and taking away the love and care people put into their art and replacing it with a 10 second soulless prompt

βAwesome and hilarious.

VIBE SPELLING!
AAAAAAAAAAA-
βPinoBatch@peoplemaking.games
@NullTheFool It makes me wonder if there's a comic idea in running a more subtle AI over a trick in development to scan it for common problems. Call it a π spell check
βmkj@social.mkj.earth
To be honest, I'm surprised that the headmaster didn't ask the Avian Intelligence and *it* said that according to investors, the Avian Intelligence program represents the future of magic. Still, yes, pretty much!

davidrevoy
@mkj Haha, a missed opportunity to make the Headmaster AI Parrot say something. π Thanks for sharing!

Maybe in the next installment? π (You're by all means welcome to the idea if you want to use it.)
βalxndr@tech.lgbt
Not sure what's "Fantasy" about this. π

pilchard@ravenation.club
@alxndr It makes God and creationism seem much more logical. Iβm not a convert yet but hey, itβs a thought.
LonM@vivaldi.net
I'm loving this mini series. The need for cash investment in education vs compromising on tech is a very real problem.
I've had a thought - Familiars are meant to form a special bond with a magic user to help guide them along their own unique path. If they all have the same familiar then, even if it did work, that would really hurt their culture overall. It would become too homogeneous.
davidrevoy
@LonM Thank you!
I see, I'll have to look on the reality of how users are 'customizing their AI' (maybe with a general pre-prompt list) and the problematic behind it. It can be a good topic for a comic strip or two with this Gothic Sorceress and her AI Parrot. Thank you for sharing the idea.

on the one hand it's hard to gauge exactly *what* is broken about that world without any sort of reference point as to what it's supposed to do
on the other, the more i look at it the more respect i have for how you managed to deliberately capture so many little "SFF AI slop picture" tropes and stylisms π β
ToonLink@fandom.ink
@apophis The little deformed mastodon logos tickled me pink, hehehe.
βtrainguyrom@techhub.social
a friend of a friend is a student at Cornell and going through exactly this right now (and working on transferring out of their dream college) they shared a document where the administration defended their AI policies and in the defense cite "AI Copilot" output as their source. I'm kinda disappointed I'm not seeing some malicious compliance source checking where they apply the same battery of checking sources one would to citations of obscure books for made up Wikipedia edits. Would an AI model be a primary or secondary source?
davidrevoy
@trainguyrom True, thanks to this mini series I started to document myself a bit more on AI (before that, I was just skipping every details about it). Pushing it in the schools, in the enterprises too ; is a real thing, with people in charge convinced they'll do profit, or accelerate production this way...
2 βAbout the sources, I wrote something on this topic, maybe for next week. I see more and more LLMs trying to quote their sources; wikipedia article or webpage (eg. Mistral recently).
aismallard@woem.space
I guess I would call it vibe casting
davidrevoy
@aismallard Yes, I was hesitant with the wording. Vibe Spelling VS Vibe Casting. Not sure the one who would have been closer to "vibe coding".
2 βtth@pleroma.interhacker.space
@aismallard : "Vibe casting" is only used when speaking about a few very good C programmers.
davidrevoy
@tth @aismallard π€£
lazy@fedi.at
@aismallard Maybe also *vibe chanting*
βdavidrevoy
@lazy @aismallard That sounds poetic π
lazy@fedi.at
@aismallard Oh, or alternatively maybe just *vibe magic*.
βLucKeyProductions@c.im
@aismallard Under the hood, it runs on a Vibe Cast System. This keeps a history of summ-its, and allows anyone access to the source.
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/VCS
...over at our academy, anyway. Not sure these investors would allow that.
w@11n.org
'vibe casting' sounds like doing a radio show without a script

βphbarre@mastodon.zaclys.com
oh right !! Spelling as in casting a spell, not spelling a word... Took me a while...
davidrevoy
@phbarre Yes, finding solid wording for that was nearly impossible. It's probably not the best. Maybe I should have gone with "Vibe Coding, I call it." directly.
dgouttegattat@social.incenp.org
@phbarre Pff, all you had to do was to ask a LLM for what the best wording would be. π Donβt you know about Vibe Joke-Writing? β

@eruwero Thank you very much for this reference, I had no idea it existed. It sounds very interesting, I'll try to get a physical copy. I also love it is CC BY SA licensed, and so totally compatible with the Mini Fantasy Theater series if I decide to back-port a fictive character name.

"In retrospective, this lead to what is now called the 'Great Chasm' in Revoy's work, exposing a large audience to the exploits of Eva Lu Ator and the horrors and wonders of Lisp..."

(I just checked the online price for a physical version; above 50β¬ and for the French version, above 60β¬; I'll probably read the PDF in the wiki on my e-reader then :D)
3 βwakame@tech.lgbt
@eruwero
IMHO: The cover gave it the name "Wizard Book", and there is magic in there (albeit the computer science kind).
Otherwise, not really references to wizards, but especially the exercises have a lot of colorful names that I have found in no other book of that kind so far.
And: The people in the exercises seem to be mostly female, which is also rather uncommon for that era.
βeruwero@ieji.de
@wakame yes it's pretty expensive unfortunately
Btw the recordings of the original lectures are still available too. The most magical lecture is the one about the metacircular evaluator :)
