Graveyard Surprise (Halloween Special)

Transcript:

A short comic strip in four panels:

Panel 1. In a misty, night‑time graveyard, among the cold stones of long‑abandoned graves, a beautiful young necromancer stands majestically with her staff. She faces a knight serious about engaging in a fight.

Necromancer: Muahahaha! Attacking a necromancer in a graveyard, you clueless fool!

Panel 2. The necromancer raises her staff and arms, casting a spell that spreads luminous effects across the ground around her. Skeletons emerge from the graves.

Necromancer: Skeletons! Rise from the dead!

Panel 3. The skeletons look at each other, some pat each other on the back, others hug, seemingly unaware of the necromancer's presence. A mix of disbelief and excitement ripples through them. In the background, the necromancer makes a horrified face: this isn’t the result she expected.

Skeleton 1 (an adult): Hey, kiddo? Is that you?
Skeleton 2 (a smaller one): Grandpa?!
Skeleton 3 (holding another’s hand like a lover): Come along, love, everyone's here.
Skeleton 4 (an elderly one, clutching its back): Hello, youth!

Panel 4. The necromancer is disgraced and her arms droop. The five skeletons now huddle together, arms intertwined. The knight roll on the floor laughing at the necromancer’s crushing failure.

Necromancer: I hate tiny family graveyards.

ah, c'est "from your grave" !

Love how the necro is still winning the battle, because her enemy is dying of laughter.

If you know a little bit of anime-japanese, I have a word for you:

Nekomancer.

You're welcome, meow.

I came up with it but I'm surely not the only one... 😅

@momo ha right, I found a class for a RPG video game gbf.wiki/Nekomancer , and also some who took it as a name for the title of their video game. Too bad, I'll check if it is not too copyrighted and still safe to use it.

@ygor Haha, got the idea at a funeral, so many family graves around during the ceremony, my brain had to invent a little something to spend time a bit better I guess. I'm not surprised someone else get the same concept idea too! Thanks for the link.

did you translate this one yourself? I believe "Hello, youth" is not something you would say in English.

link David Revoy Author, - Reply
davidrevoy

@timnolli Yes, I can be sometime limited by my own English skill. Thank you, I'll double check this expression with English native on the Pepper&Carrot chat room on Matrix later.

link Tim N   - Reply
timnolli@convo.casa

good, and interesting what they say. I'm also not a native speaker but I think the closest would be "Hello kids". Which is very similar to the "Hello Kiddo" above. Personally I would probably have written something like "Hello Billy".

link Moni   - Reply
monilenyan@mastodon.social

@timnolli I'd like to confirm this as FR-EN bilingual.
Mayyybe "hello young'uns" (young ones) but if it's family, you'd expect a more affectionate term. Kiddos sounds really good.

link David Revoy Author, - Reply
davidrevoy

@monilenyan @timnolli Thank you for confirming! I just reported it on our bug tracker to not forget framagit.org/peppercarrot/webc because I already forgot about Tim N feedback (mea culpa); I'll manage this after the Pepper&Carrot episode 39 release.

I'm geeking out that you use a bug tracker to keep track of things to fix in a comics ^0^ past as a coder maybe?
Also I feel like I helped a bit, yay!
Is it worth asking a native for full confirmation of what alternative would as close to your intended meaning?

@monilenyan Hehe, yes, I self-taught BASIC on my Amstrad 6128 when I was a kid, and then later, websites, contrib to FLOSS projects as a tester/UI/graphist. I do a bit of Bash and Python too (the translation renderfarm behind Pepper&Carrot) ; So, I was a bit familiar with tools like Git, and then managing my projects with it felt natural from the start. :gitlab: 💜
