transcript:
A comic strip in four panels:
Panel 1. On a shore, a beautiful mermaid and a young centaur meet. They look at each other.
Panel 2. Close-up portrait of the two protagonists, both look away, blushing.
Panel 3. Later, at sunset, the two admire the sunset together, side by side. They're a couple.
Panel 4. The happy couple watches their two half-human, half-seahorse children playing in the water.
Narrator: A few years later...

For the curious folks who wonder how it worked in practice ... notice the arrow and the shell.
davidrevoy
@greenCoder Thank you for noticing this two symbols; the shell with its shape and the arrow (and role of hunter). It was unconscious at the storyboard phase, then became intentional. #symbolism

Wait, hold up, you made this using only free, open-source tools?!? That's even more impressive. If you don't mind me asking, what's your preferred drawing software? I've been using Photoshop since forever, but I've been itching to move to something else.

@Legit_Spaghetti
★wrote some blog posts about it: https://www.davidrevoy.com/index.php?tag/linux
davidrevoy
@pink @Legit_Spaghetti Yes, only with Free/Libre and Open Source software, my main tool is Krita, and right now on a Debian Plasma KDE X11 operating system (fully described on the link Pink sent, thank you Pink!).
I also have a humble Ytb channel if you are not allergic to French accent: https://www.youtube.com/@DavidRevoy/videos (mirrored on Peertube too, https://peertube.touhoppai.moe/c/4742f338-1ded-4798-bd85-93e8de367476/videos?sort=-originallyPublishedAt )

Lol. Not sure how I got dragged into this, but I'm here for it and now considering changing my avatar to dead-fish/horse kid...
Bonus unrelated fun fact: Not sure if Deevad realizes, but we actually met in person many years ago at an early Krita sprint.

@farah @Legit_Spaghetti Since both parents had human heads, clearly fish-headedness is a recessive gene that the centaur was also carrying.

Note to self: don't overthink it too much
th3rdsergeevich@mastodon.ml
@drq I think biology would be a "party pooper" in this case.
drq@mastodon.ml
@th3rdsergeevich I think, even before biology this relationship is going to be a challenge. The fun will start at the intersection of geometry, anatomy and Newtonian mechanics.

★Your drawings are beautiful and the storys, the thought process behind all of them, are similarly beautiful. And that applies to all the works I have seen from you so far! So from the bottom of my heart: Thank you so much for being the person you are and for the art you do! It brights up my timeline and always puts a smile in my face. Thank you!

ygor@floss.social

Hatebunny@social.hatebunny.ca
it's beautiful, but I have... questions.
Chip_Unicorn@im-in.space
@Hatebunny Love... finds a way.
pantaRhei@freiburg.social
Nice One! 😆
... and now I wonder how many European languages this is obvious in without further explanation.
E.g. in German it's "Seepferdchen", that's literally "little sea horse", thus the comic works directly. 🤔
Ann_Effes@berlin.social
@pantaRhei
Works in German.
dgouttegattat@social.incenp.org
@pantaRhei In French the “official” name for a seahorse is “hippocampe” (from the scientific name of the genus, hippocampus), but “cheval de mer” is also commonly used, and that is literally “sea horse”. So it works in French as well. 😀
JorisMeys@mstdn.social
but but that's not how biology wor*SLAP*

it took me a few good seconds to understand haha
ToonLink@fandom.ink
Aaaww little seahorses. :blobcataww:
★davidrevoy
@ToonLink Thanks! I wanted to insert a seahorse emoticon and then I remembered it doesn't exist and this https://vgel.me/posts/seahorse/ I read earlier this week.
3 ★ToonLink@fandom.ink
Oh wow, that's fascinating. There's even a mandela effect going on. o:
Some of the responses are amazing, though. "Wait, no, that's an X" sounds like an old tumblr meme. 😆

ces dessins sont extraordinaires. C'est magnifique.
★f4grx@chaos.social
@jujudraw je plussoie!
davidrevoy
@f4grx @jujudraw Merci

@Wildebeest Merci!
( Alors, ça a été la nuit? 😅)
★Wildebeest@mastodon.social
★Oh oui.
C'était facile : castor + canard noir (et quelques gènes de capybara).
Et paf ! Ça fait un Nornithorynque ☝
🙃 😁

I had to think about it for a minute but the children becoming sea horses is actually incredible. Awesome work!
Aoi_X_Kaizaki@mastodon.social
Imagine your father is a minitour and your mother is a mermaid, but you get the human half from both.
That mean's you're just...
Some guy.
★davidrevoy
@Aoi_X_Kaizaki Haha, that's a good idea. I'll try to keep it in mind, maybe there is a way to make a comic strip around this drama.
4 ★sman42@chaos.social
Hi, thanks for all.
your work. Just beside your fantastic current work, I am just curious if there is any finalizing work planned for Pepper & Carrot? Would love to see a great end! :) #fanboy https://www.davidrevoy.com/article1020/the-end-of-peppercarrot-and-my-next-project
davidrevoy
@sman42 Thank you 💜 Yes, I'll make a new production report soon about it, but to be short: I have a long episode I keep doing in background (aside the weekly comic strip) since June. I like doing both this way. I'll continue Pepper&Carrot, I have a story to tell for the book five. Thank you for asking.
2 ★derek@social.coop
Something happened between the third and fourth panels that would probably deeply confuse me if I pondered it too much.
davidrevoy
@derek Yes, just a recommendation for curious: don't look for it on Rule 34. It did cost me a pack of brain cells when I typed "Centaurs" into the search field. I had to immediately stop my research to save my sanity. 😅 #regrets
6 ★breizh@pleroma.breizh.pm
@derek Ah, the human imagination, source of so many wonders and, um… other things.
★davidrevoy

dat@social.g33ky.de
@derek that's where the magic happens!
Now… don't at seahorses the males carry the young? ★
dgouttegattat@social.incenp.org
I wonder if you’ll receive a polite request to completely change the story, from someone who deeply respects your creative choices but doesn’t want to expose children to romantic relationships between characters of different species… 😁 ★
davidrevoy
@dgouttegattat 🤣 haha. If I receive that, I'll make sure to make a series of strip about various breeds of mythological creatures. Like, what type of eggs result of a Draconian and a Harpie? Do you obtain a sort of Pterosaur?
3 ★dgouttegattat@social.incenp.org
Now I kinda wish you do receive such a request. 😁 I’d look forward to that series. ★

@dgouttegattat and worst outcomes for a hydra hybrid 😂
davidrevoy
@viq @dgouttegattat lol, Hydra meet Cerberus. :blobaww:
3 ★viq@hackerspace.pl
@dgouttegattat I was also thinking about Medusa or something fire breathing 🤔
★viq@hackerspace.pl
@dgouttegattat but, while those can be *dangerous*, I do like the imagery of a Hydra Cerberus :D
viq@hackerspace.pl
@dgouttegattat Hydra and Chimera, but every time a new head grows it's of a different species 😂
